Torrey pines for another U.S. Open

June 15, 2009

One year after the South Course at Torrey Pines hosted one of golf's most memorable U.S. Opens, a San Diego U.S. Open Host Committee has begun lobbying the United States Golf Association to bring the Open back, possibly in 2018. A group from the committee, including co-chair Jeff Baglio, will be at Bethpage this week and intend to make its presence known.

"We were as proud as any community could be of the event we staged," Baglio tells the San Diego Union-Tribune. "We're enthusiastic about the reasons why it would be wonderful to have it here again. That's literally the message that I continue to tell anybody with a blue blazer who will listen."
