The wait is over. Tiger Woods is returning to golf.

On Friday, the PGA Tour announced that Woods has entered the season-opening Safeway Open, held at Silverado Country Club in Napa, California. Woods missed the entire 2015-2016 campaign due to a microdiscectomy surgery and follow-up procedures. It will be his first tournament since the 2015 Wyndham Championship.

Though Woods announced on September 7 his intentions to play at Silverado, he had yet to officially commit to the tournament before Friday morning. The field deadline was 5 PM EST.

Woods is also expected to play in the Turkish Airlines Open (November 3-6) and his own Hero World Challenge (December 1-4).

Woods is second on the PGA Tour's all-time win list with 79 victories, although his last triumph came at the 2013 Bridgestone Invitational. The 40 year old has played in the Safeway Open event just once, finishing 30th in 2011 (then known as the Frys.com Open at CordeValle Golf Club). However, Woods does have 14 career victories in California.
