The fans are on the field! The fans are on the field! Weather delay causes total chaos at Baltusrol

July 30, 2016

SPRINGFIELD, N.J. -- Ever wanted to know what it feels like to be inside the ropes at a major championship? A bunch of fans found out at Baltusrol on Saturday -- and it sure seemed like they enjoyed themselves.

During a lengthy third-round delay, some bold fans decided to stroll out on the soggy course. Apparently, all the marshals on the 18th hole aren't paid to stay outside during delays.

Or on the fourth hole:

Or anywhere:

Balangee also reported shirtless fans out there. Ryan is a brave man for walking out there with such hooligans.

Of course, we kid. In fact, at the Old Course at St. Andrews this kind of scene is common after British Open rounds when the course is opened to the public. People are regularly seen walking their dogs and having picnics at the Home of Golf.

In the U.S., though, this was an unusual scene. We're not condoning this type of behavior, but we will say this: These fans are lucky this isn't Augusta National.
