The driver Jim Furyk shot 59 with in the 2013 BMW Championship is worth $18

Firing a sub-60 round in any PGA Tour event is a notable achievement. Doing it in the FedEx Cup Playoffs, however, is next level. That’s what Jim Furyk did 10 years ago during the second round of the 2013 BMW Championship at Conway Farms G.C. outside Chicago.

Of course, when you shoot a 59 in a PGA Tour event (with a bogey on the card, no less), pretty much everything in your bag is working. Such was the case for Furyk during that round. Furyk's final birdie on the 405-yard, par-4 ninth hole (he started on the 10th), was a microcosm of that and featured three clubs that were uniquely Furyk’s.

The perfectly struck tee shot was with a Callaway FT Optiforce 440 driver he put in play at that year’s Canadian Open. The club was 44.5 inches long with a loft of 10.1 degrees. Amazingly, according to the PGA Value Guide, the current value of that driver, which was on the first to employ an adjustable hosel that could alter loft and lie without affecting face angle, is a paltry $18.

The approach from 103 yards that settled three feet from the hole was with a Callaway X Forged 50-degree wedge that Furyk asked for with plenty of offset—an unusual request for more tour players but something the 2003 U.S. Open champion has employed for some time.

Finally, the putt for 59 was made using an Odyssey Versa #1W that Furyk first used at Oak Hill during the 2013 PGA Championship. Furyk had used a similar model earlier in the year, but this putter had a single-bend shaft (instead of a double-bend) and was a half-inch longer at 35.5 inches. Clearly these were changes for the good. Here are all the clubs Furyk had in the bag from that magical round a decade ago.
