The cool backstory—and happy ending—to that PGA Tour 'undercover' club fitting viral video
Last week we shared the (viral) video of PGA Tour pro Zac Blair going "undercover" to get a golf club fitting. We found it funny and good-natured. Sure, the guy doing the club fitting took some ribbing for not realizing he was working with a PGA Tour pro, but Blair's overall point is that he isn't recognizable and the 5-foot-6, short-hitting (by PGA Tour standards) BYU product doesn't give off pro athlete vibes when you look at him.
If you haven't seen the video, it's worth a watch, although, now we've kind of spoiled the plot for you. Just like people on social media have tried to spoil the video.
That's because there were many who said mean things about the club fitter in the video. There were also many people who said mean things about Zac. Both were uncalled for. And it's kind of sad that we just can't watch what was meant to be a fun video and share a laugh together. But on the bright side, this situation has a happy ending—because of a cool backstory.
The clubfitter involved is Nic Urban, who is also an assistant golf pro at The Wilds Golf Club and the Minnesota Golf Association's ambassador for adaptive golf. Urban won the 2024 Michigan Adaptive Golf Tournament Championsip in the G-15 Autism/Down Syndrome Class category. And he's a big reason for the first-ever Minnesota Adaptive Golf Open, which will be held Sept. 26-28 at Braemar Golf Club.
So forgive Nic for thinking he could beat Blair. The guy is a great player, who will represent Minnesota at the 2026 Special Olympics USA Games next summer. Not to mention, a bit of a local legend. Anyway, Zac made good on his promise to have Nic out at the 3M Open, where Blair finished T-44:
And then Blair used his platform—and the club Nic expertly fitted him for—to raise money for Youth on Course, another one of Urban's causes:
Good stuff. So, keep an eye out for what Nic does next. And if you're a club fitter, keep an eye out for a 5-foot-6 golfer who comes into your store with someone recording video of the whole thing.
