The field entering the week was considered weak, but Daniel Berger overtook Jordan Spieth and held off Patrick Cantlay—then nipped Maverick McNealy to win an entertaining AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am, despite the fact the celebrities weren't present this year.

Berger clinched the title by burying a 30-footer for eagle (his fourth of the week) on the 72nd hole following a solid 3-wood from 253 yards out to beat McNealy, who had birdied the final hole to get into a tie with Berger, by two. Berger’s 3-wood is a TaylorMade M6 with 15 degrees of loft.

Berger’s win continued a solid stretch that dates back to last season’s re-start when he won the Charles Schwab Challenge and included nine top-10s since 2020. After the win at Colonial, Berger noted he had put a renewed emphasis on working on his short game—something that was evident at Pebble Beach as he led the field in scrambling at 87.5 percent, including a spectacular bunker shot at the par-4 15th that kept him tied for the lead.

Berger ranked sixth in strokes gained/off-the-tee with his TaylorMade SIM driver (which he used to drive the fourth green on Saturday) and was seventh in greens in regulation with a split set of irons that have some mileage on them. His Callaway Apex 3-iron is from 2016 and his TaylorMade MC Forged 11 4-iron through pitching wedge date back to 2011. Berger used the irons to hit 77.78 percent of his greens in regulation—the same number he hit during his win in May.

Clearly, there is something to be said for consistency.
