The American Airlines AAdvantage® Program Elevates Your Golf Travels
Editor's Note: This article is written in partnership with American Airlines AAdvantage.
If you’re like most golf travelers, you pay very close attention to airline travel rewards programs. You take notes about the carriers that charge extra to travel with clubs. At the same time, you take similar notes about airlines that cater to your golf lifestyle, like American Airlines.
Being rewarded for the money you choose to spend can go a long way to earning your loyalty. American Airlines gets this.
First, American Airlines passengers do not have to pay oversized baggage fees when traveling with their golf clubs. It’s a very simple benefit that some airlines overlook and can often drive golfers away. On top of that, Platinum Pro level (and above) travelers aren’t charged for overweight bags up to 70 pounds, a significant bump from the 50-pound limit for other passengers. American’s philosophy is simple. As you look for ways to elevate your golf game, American looks for ways to elevate your travel experience.
In March, American Airlines announced several enhancements to its rewards program with you in mind. If you haven’t already done so, you can sign up for free.
Keep these benefits in mind:
- You don’t have to wait to start earning rewards. As an AAdvantage® member, you have immediate access to benefits, including earlier boarding, before you even reach status.
- You can now earn status and miles through flying, buying, dining and more. Earn miles and Loyalty Points for that special family vacation you’ve been saving for. Enjoying dinner and drinks with your golf partners? You can earn miles and Loyalty Points for that, too, at participating restaurants.
- As always, AAdvantage® status members can check at least one bag for free. Other travelers will pay $35 for first checked bags purchased online for domestic flights.
- Need to cancel a flight? Starting in 2024, members can cancel non-refundable Basic Economy tickets and receive a partial Trip Credit for a fee. As an AAdvantage® member, coming soon you’ll also have 12 full months to use that Trip Credit, up from six months previously.
- Need to arrive earlier for a tee time or get home in time to attend your child’s soccer game? In 2024, only AAdvantage® members can request same day standby for an earlier flight.
While the AAdvantage® program offers more benefits than can be listed, one thing is clear: American Airlines wants to elevate your experience as a golf traveler. To make it as rewarding as possible, join the AAdvantage® program today for free and start filling your golf bag with Loyalty Points, miles, and member benefits.
