Sony Open in Hawaii odds 2023: All aboard the Tom Kim train
Harry How
There is always a key moment during a young player's rise when you realize things are starting to get very real. For 20-year-old Tom Kim, it appears that moment has come.
On Monday morning, when odds for the Sony Open in Hawaii dropped, there it was - Tom Kim, solo favorite (12-1, DraftKings). That's when you know the hype train is officially operating at full speed.
Of course, Kim has earned the solo favorite treatment with his play, though it's still shocking to see him alone at the top, above the likes of Sungjae Im (14-1), Jordan Spieth (16-1) and defending champion Hideki Matsuyama (18-1). In Kim's last 11 PGA Tour starts, he has two wins and three other finishes of T-5 or better, including this past week at the Sentry Tournament of Champions.
Now, the question is, can he play like that when he's expected to? We will find out this week at Waialae CC, where Kim will be making his tournament debut as top dog in the betting market. No pressure, kid.
