Solheim Cup
The four Solheim Cup singles matches we’re most excited to watch on Sunday
An 8-8 tie heading into Sunday singles at the Solheim Cup, considering Team USA swept the Friday morning foursomes matches to take a quick 4-0 lead. While Team USA certainly would have preferred a blowout, this all-square match should make for a dramatic day of golf. Every player goes out on Sunday, playing 18-hole singles matches. Of the 12 matches being played at Finca Cortesin on Sunday morning, these four stand out.
Stuart Franklin
Megan Khang vs. Linn Grant
5:10 am EST
Khang hasn’t lost a match yet, going 2-0-1. Grant has also played well, going 3-1-0. The duo of Khang and Lexi Thompson delivered Grant her only loss this tournament, in Friday foursomes. At stake for both teams is getting points on the board early, establishing momentum.

Rose Zhang vs. Leona Maguire
5:22 am EST
Zhang is a 20-year-old phenom who won her first pro tournament earlier this year. Maguire is only playing in her second Solheim Cup but is already a star in the biennial matches. Then there’s the added layer of intrigue as they played at two women’s college golf powerhouses: Zhang at Stanford, Maguire at Duke.
Stuart Franklin
Nelly Korda vs. Carlota Ciganda
7:10 am EST
There’s nothing like playing well on home soil: Ciganda has won all three matches she’s played in Spain. The Spaniard loves the Solheim Cup and obviously hopes to ride her momentum into this match. But it’s hard to ever bet against Nelly Korda. Both these players have experience and grit.
Angel Martinez
Lexi Thompson vs. Emily Kristine Pedersen
7:22 am EST
As a captain’s pick ranked 122 in the world, Pedersen had a bit to prove when she got to Spain. Similarly, Thompson has not had a strong season and faced some questions before the Solheim Cup began. But both of these players have showed up. Thompson has gone 2-1-0 in her three matches, and Pedersen has played every match, going 2-1-1. Pedersen also made the second-ever ace in Solheim Cup history. With the tournament sitting all square at the start of the day, there’s a chance it could all come down to this match.
