Shotscope’s new X5 GPS watch continues the company’s extensive commitment to efficient in-round data tracking and post-round analytics. Among the important elements in the latest offering, aside from its sleeker appearance and choice of five watch face styles, the X5 will provide data on 100 performance statistics (including club distances, short game numbers, putting averages, strokes gained, as well as handicap benchmarking to show how your performance compares to others at your level or a goal level). Upgraded RFID tags that screw in to the butt end of each club’s grip makes the data tracking more efficient. Enhanced with smart GPS, the tags automatically sync with the watchband to record each swing during a round.

Meanwhile, the 1.2-inch touch-screen-enabled watch itself provides front, middle and back distances to every green. Layup points and dogleg distances, front and carry distances to hazards, a green view screen with dynamic pin placement and a digital in-round scorecard are additional features. There’s also a daily step tracker that allows the watch to be worn just as effectively off the course as on.

The enhanced data also helps bolster the picture of your game posted on the Shot Scope Academy. Each round’s data is uploated to a database that can be viewed by instructor or coach, who can in turn review your numbers and provide recommendations and lesson plans.

The X5 comes loaded with more than 36,000 courses and the system has the capacity to install course map changes in a 48-hour turnaround time.

The Shot Scope X5 is available for $300.
