    Semifinalists for Hogan Award named

    April 13, 2011
    Save for later

A few surprises actually with the release of the 10 semifinalists for the Ben Hogan Award, given to the top men's NCAA college golfer (all divisions) taking into account all collegiate and amateur competitions during a 12-month period. Specifically, Florida senior Bank Vongvanij was not among the final 10, despite three wins and seven top-six finishes this season. Meanwhile, teammate Andres Echavarria did make the list having one win but no other top-six finishes (he did have two other top-10s). Boosting Echavarria's case is his runner-up finish at the Nationwide Tour's Chitimacha Louisiana Open.

In the interest full disclosure, I am among the voters for the Hogan Award. I did vote Vongvanij in my top 10, but Echavarria only made my top 20.

Only one school had multiple players on the list: Oklahoma State with Peter Uihlein, Morgan Hoffmann and Kevin Tway.

The complete list is below. The three finalists will be named May 4 with the winner being chosen during the Hogan Award banquet at Colonial CC in Fort Worth May 16.
