Scottie Scheffler eagles first hole at Charles Schwab Challenge, Golf Twitter declares tournament over

Sam Hodde
Scottie Scheffler is the clear World No. 1 and coming off a dominant win at the PGA Championship. Actually, he's coming off that dominant win and an even more dominant win at the CJ Cup Byron Nelson his start before, putting him an absurd 13 shots clear of everyone else in those two victories. It's just not a fair fight right now!
But certainly Scottie is going to take it a bit easy this week after hoisting the Wanamaker Trophy, right? Wrong.
As we saw when he won the Masters last year and won the following week at Hilton Head, Scheffler isn't just playing in his hometown PGA Tour event this week, the Charles Schwab Challenge, for kicks. The dude wants to kick butt. And he showed that right away with an eagle to start his first round.
Not surprisingly, Golf Twitter all but declared the tournament over after one hole.
And you can't blame them! Of course, there's still a lot of golf left. But Scheffler moved from a ridiculous +250 pre-tournament odds to an even more ridiculous +140.
There are still 71 holes left! But, again, it's just not a fair fight right now. Oh, and actually, there are only 70 holes left, because while we were typing this sentence Scottie birdied No. 2. Good luck to the rest of the field!
