This is what a PGA Tour pro's chipping disaster looks like

February 19, 2015

Thank goodness Shotlink doesn't exist for recreational golfers like us, because it would probably be full of images like this. But it only tracks the pros on the PGA Tour, which means we can marvel at them on the odd occasions when they run into some trouble.

Scott Piercy was the victim this time during the first round of the Northern Trust Open. The reachable par-4 10th at Riviera C.C. -- which, in fairness, does have an extraordinarily tricky green -- was his first hole of the tournament. After hitting his drive into the greenside bunker long, things started to go downhill. He hit his second shot over the green into the front greenside bunker, his third back into the bunker long and his fourth into the front bunker again, before finally knocking his fifth shot seven feet from the hole. He made the putt for a cool double-bogey 6.

We feel your pain, Scott.
