Scott Piercy birdied the 17th hole of the second round Saturday morning to increase his lead to three in the Safeway Open at Silverado Resort in Napa, Calif.

Piercy, who shot a five-under par 67, had led by two through 11 holes when play was suspended because of darkness on Friday evening.

Johnson Wagner also completed his round, a 67, and is in second place, along with Paul Casey. Troy Merritt in in fourth, while Patton Kizzire and Martin Laird are tied for fifth, and Bill Haas, Derek Fathauer and Cody Gribble are tied for seventh, seven back of Piercy.

Phil Mickelson, who posted back-to-back 69s, is tied for 15th, nine shots behind Piercy, who is seeking his fourth PGA Tour victory.

"I’m looking forward to the weekend,” Mickelson said on Friday. “Today, given the conditions, to be able to get the distance control right, the trajectory, the spin right on spongy greens to give myself as many birdie opportunities as I had, I think this is some of the best iron play I’ve had.”

The third round will commence this morning.
