Round three officially begins

OAKMONT, Pa. -- The third round just began (at 2:35pm), with threesomes starting on hole Nos. 1 and 10. Five amateurs made the cut (Lisa McCloskey, 18, leads the low-amateur race), and Alexis Thompson, at 15 years old, is now the youngest in the field.

The lead group (Cristie Kerr, Sakura Yokomine and Paula Creamer) will tee off at 4:25, which means they'll have to play in four hours and 20 minutes to finish their rounds before it gets too dark to play. The players who don't finish this evening will resume their rounds tomorrow morning at 7:30.

Besides that first group, I plan to keep my eye on the youngest threesome of the field: Ai Miyazato, Jiyai Shin and Alexis Thompson.
