Rory McIlroy's putter cover is appropriate following FedEx Cup win

September 27, 2016

Rory McIlroy infamously stated on the eve of the 2015 Tour Championship that the FedEx Cup's $10 million didn't mean that much to him. "It will go in the bank and if I want to buy something nice, I will," the Northern Irishman asserted. "I mean like it's nice to think that you could win $10 million this week, but that's not what excites me. It excites me to play well and to try and win. And the FedEx Cup is ... one of the only things that I haven't put on my [resume] and that would be more exciting to do that rather than walk away with a check."

A year later, with the championship -- and more importantly, its payout -- in hand, we're not sure if McIlroy's changed his tune. But, judging by his putter cover at Hazeltine National -- a design he's had the past few weeks -- one thing's for sure: the 27-year-old has no problem reminding you who won that $10 million at East Lake.

Personally, I would have gone with a cover quilted out of gold. But when you pull in $10 million for four days of work, you can do whatever you damn well please.
