LOUISVILLE — Rory McIlroy has filed for divorce from his wife, Erica.
According to Palm Beach County records, McIlroy filed a petition of divorce on May 13, with records showing a return of service served to Erica. TMZ was the first to report the news.
McIlroy and Erica began dating in 2014 and were married in 2017. They have one child together, daughter Poppy, born in August 2020.
McIlroy's team released a statement to multiple media outlets, asserting McIlroy's desire to ensure this difficult time is as respectful and amicable as possible and that he will not be making any further comments on the matter at this time.
The divorce was filed a day after McIlroy won the Wells Fargo Championship. He is scheduled to speak to the media at Valhalla on Wednesday ahead of the PGA Championship.
McIlroy did arrive to Valhalla on Tuesday afternoon and was seen warming up on the driving range.
