Rory McIlroy debuts new spikeless Nike Lunar Control Vapor shoes at the WGC-HSBC Champions
Rory McIlroy's switch to a new driver and fairway woods was the big story leading up to this week’s WGC-HSBC Champions in China. But the four-time major champ also debuted a new Nike golf shoe on Thursday as the company introduced its Nike Lunar Control Vapor.
The footwear, which will be available on Nike's website in men's and women's sizing Nov. 22, replaces traditional spikes with traction channels on the base of the foot to provide stability. Nike says the inspiration for this system, which it calls Articulated Integrated Traction, was a snowmobile's treading and how it grips the snow. Here are some photos provided by the company.
McIlroy, who also put TaylorMade's M2 driver and fairway woods into play, opened up his 2016-'17 season with a 1-under par 71 in his first action since the Ryder Cup at Hazeltine.
