It may have been a social-media joke that we couldn’t find Rickie Fowler in his bold camo outfit Thursday during the first round of the WM Phoenix Open. But folks truly won’t be able to spot Fowler at all on Friday at TPC Scottsdale.

A day after shooting three-over 74 in the opening round of the PGA Tour stop—and generating a ton of buzz on social media for a full camouflaged outfit from Puma—Fowler withdrew ahead of Round 2, citing an illness, per PGA Tour reports on Friday morning.

Fowler was set to tee off on Friday alongside Billy Horschel and Sahith Theegala; the group will now play as a twosome.

Fowler, a six-time PGA Tour winner, including at TPC Scottsdale for the 2019 WM Phoenix Open, recorded a top-10 finish at the Zozo Championship in the fall, which was his first since his victory at the 2023 Rocket Mortgage Classic. Once the fourth-ranked golfer in the world, he has fallen to 85th. Fowler had made two starts in 2025, finishing T-21 at The American Express and T-53 at the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am. He has also made two appearances in TGL for the New York Golf Club.

The Murrieta, Calif., native received a sponsor’s exemption to play in next week’s Genesis Invitational, relocated to Torrey Pines. He’s still in the field as of now.

This was Fowler's look from Thursday, captured by his buddy and NBC reporter Smylie Kaufman.
