U.S. Open 2020: Duke alum Kevin Streelman had the perfect dagger for Rick Pitino at Winged Foot

    September 18, 2020

Kevin Streelman won't be winning the U.S. Open this weekend. In fact, he won't even be on the grounds of Winged Foot, as he missed the cut by two shots. But the Duke alum was still able to leave the property on a high note. We'll explain.

If you missed the early portion of the second-round coverage, you probably didn't see that legendary college basketball coach Rick Pitino was in attendance as a fan. Pitino, who took the Iona job in March, is a member at Winged Foot, and lives in a home just behind the par-3 third green. So he was able to watch some of the action from his own backyard:

Streelman, who graduated from Duke in 2001, took notice of the former Providence, Kentucky and Lousiville head coach. Pitino cheered on Streelman's par, so Streelman tossed him a ball. Little did Pitino know there was a nice shot at him on it:

This is the definition of "shots fired." Pitino's lifetime record vs. Duke? 2-4. Well played, Streels, well played:
