Report: David Feherty, CBS Sports part ways
According to a Sports Business Journal report, CBS Sports has decided not to renew the contract of on-course reporter David Feherty.
Feherty, a former European Ryder Cup player, had been with the network's golf coverage for 19 years. A native of Northern Ireland, Feherty became popular with audiences for his witty and bombastic commentary. This persona bestowed Feherty his own eponymous television show, which runs on the Golf Channel.
According to the SBJ's John Ourand, who broke the story, Feherty and CBS could not reach an agreement on Feherty's role with the network's coverage going forward.
NBC, which owns the Golf Channel, is said to be the early favorite as Feherty's landing spot, as the Peacock owns the rights to the Ryder Cup, the Olympics (which will highlight golf's return to the games in 2016) and, starting in 2017, the British Open.
