Reactions came in hot as Phil Mickelson led (very) early at Chambers Bay

It was very, very, very early at the U.S. Open. But one of the biggest storylines of the week -- once again -- is Phil Mickelson going for the career Grand Slam at a course that would seem to fit his game.

Given that, and Phil's hot start on Thursday with birdies on Nos. 3 and 5 giving him the lead at 2-under and leading for most of his early round, golf Twitter didn't take long to dish out some early hot takes. Here's a quick look.

Mickelson had a chance to actually add another birdie with a short putt on the par-4 6th, but it slid by and he had to settle for par.

UPDATE: Mickelson made the turn at 3-under 32, then bogeyed No. 10 but came back with a birdie at 11. He's a co-leader with Patrick Reed as of 1:45 p.m.

Second update: Phil limped in a bit but finished at 1-under 69. In all six of his runner-up finishes in the U.S. Open, he has shot an opening round of 70 or better. So there's that. Overreact to that!
