Watch tour pro's accidental (??) mid-round driver snap at the Made in HimmerLand
Rafa Cabrera Bello was not having a good day during Round 1 of the Made in HimmerLand on the DP World Tour. Already sitting at three over after his first 11 holes, the Spaniard had to feel like he was destined for a second straight missed cut, something he hadn't done since late last fall.
Perhaps a late-round flurry of birdies, though, could change things. Unfortunately, the exact opposite happened, with Cabrera Bello going for the rare triple-double on the next two holes, and we're not talking about the basketball kind. It all began with a dead pull off the tee at No. 12, which was followed by what appeared to be an accidental-but-maybe-on-purpose driver snap from the four-time DP World Tour winner.
You be the judge:
Again, at the time he was only three over, so not all hope was lost. That makes this seem accidental. Why snap a driver mid-round on Day 1 of a tournament that's far from over?
On the other hand, he leaned on that thing extremely hard, and the reaction made it seem like less of a "whoops" and more of a "yeah, I'm done with this thing." Hand it to the caddie and let him deal with it. Wouldn't surprise us one bit.
Cabrera Bello, who opened with a 77, came back Friday to shoot a two-over 72, which has him in a toie for 140th. He will miss his second straight cut as he continues his search for his first top-10 finish since February.
