Pro starts round hole-in-one, birdie at Mayakoba to join rare company on the PGA Tour

November 09, 2017

There are great starts to your round, and then there's what PGA Tour pro Kevin Mitchell did on Thursday at the OHL Classic at Mayakoba. With his first swing of the day, Mitchell used a 6-iron to record an ace at the 10th hole at the El Camaleon Course at Mayakoba Resort.

By so doing, Mitchell became only the fourth player since 2002 to start a round with a hole-in-one. Interestingly enough, one of those four rounds also came at the 10th hole at Mayakoba, as Tommy Aiken started his round in 2014 with an ace.

Mitchell then birdied the 11th hole, a par 4, to move to 3-under through two holes. Can't ask for a better start out of the gate than that. Mitchell had a rather routine rest of his front nine -- another birdie followed by another bogey -- but Mitchell did enough to grab a part of PGA Tour history.

And enough to make sure he'll need to buy a round of drinks after his round today.
