Players Championship odds 2023: Rory McIlroy closes the gap on Jon Rahm

Following his first-round 65 last Thursday, it appeared as though Jon Rahm might never lose a golf tournament again. You had to wonder, how low could the Spaniard's odds get at the Masters? 3-to-1? 2-to-1? Rahm vs. the field?
Then, some good-old fashioned golf happened, with Rahm shooting consecutive 76s and a final-round 72 at Bay Hill to tumble into a tie for 39th. That result, coupled with the fact that World No. 3 Rory McIlroy finished runner-up, has closed the odds gap between the two significantly. Rahm is still the lone favorite to win the Players Championship at +850 on the DraftKings Sportsbook, but McIlroy is closed behind at +900.
Scottie Scheffler, who nearly defended his API title, checks in next at 10-1. Then there's a huge jump to Patrick Cantlay, who is 18-1 along with 2021 Players champ Justin Thomas. Max Homa is 20-1, Xander Schauffele is 22-1 and Collin Morikawa, Tony Finau and Viktor Hovland are 25-1.
