Players Championship: Beau Hossler hits milestone water ball at No. 17

March 15, 2024

As golf fans are well aware, Players Championship week is as much about keeping track of how many golfers get wet on TPC Sawgrass' 17th hole as it is about keeping track of the lowest score for the week. And during Friday's second round, a special milestone was reached on the famed island par 3.

That's because Beau Hossler hit the 1,000th water ball recorded in tournament play. Congrats to Beau!

We kid, because, of course, that's a milestone no one wants to be a part of. It's not exactly like being the one millionth shopper at a grocery store and winning a prize.

No, Beau had to go to the drop zone like everyone else. Which had to be extra annoying considering his first shot had to look fantastic from the tee before bouncing near the back hole placement and over the green. Anyway, here's Hossler's shot—and his bogey save:

Way to bounce back, Beau. Now, there's one major caveat here. If you're thinking that 1,000 golf balls in the water on this treacherous spot sounds low, well, that's because it only goes back to 2003. Apparently, ShotLink is needed to keep count of golf balls in the water here.

In any event, there have been a LOT of water balls on No. 17 during this tournament—and even more when normal hackers play TPC Sawgrass. But, officially, Hossler hit No. 1,000. And hopefully, we'll all still be around to celebrate No. 2,000 in another couple decades.
