Players 2021: Kyle Stanley nearly slam dunks hole-in-one, still winds up in the water on No. 17

March 11, 2021

If this is how things are going to go at the 2021 Players, well, then, buckle up, because one player already experienced quite the bumpy ride on Thursday morning.

Kyle Stanley was the first golfer to get to the 17th hole at TPC Sawgrass in the first round. And he quickly became the infamous par 3s first victim of the week. How it happened, though, made it even worse.

Already at four over in his round on what has proven to be a tough morning for scoring, Stanley took an aggressive approach to a back pin position and nearly dunked his tee shot on the fly. The problem? His ball bounced like it had landed on a cart path and shot right into the water. Check it out:

Yikes. As if that hole isn't tough enough as is, that green looks mighty firm.

You can't see Stanley's reaction in the video, but, we're guessing he wasn't happy. And for those with a later first-round tee time watching early coverage of the tournament, you've been warned.
