Return to Trump Doral highlights 2026 PGA Tour schedule

The PGA Tour is returning to the Blue Monster, as President Donald Trump’s Doral resort outside of Miami is not just back on the tour’s schedule in 2026 but will host a signature event.

The PGA Tour unveiled its 2026 schedule on Tuesday morning ahead of the Tour Championship at East Lake, with few big surprises beyond the addition of a ninth signature event.

Golf Digest reported this winter that, as Trump was brought into negotiations between the tour and Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund, the president’s circle was campaigning for Doral’s reinstatement into the tour rota. While those negotiations to end professional golf’s schism have been at an impasse after a White House meeting gone south in March, Trump—whose properties are also featured on LIV Golf’s schedule—has still been brought back into the tour fold.

Doral was an annual stop on the PGA Tour from 1962 to 2016. The tour ended its 45-year relationship with the venue after Cadillac declined to renew its sponsorship of the WGC event—a move widely seen as a response to controversial remarks made by Trump during his first presidential run. The tour eventually moved the event to Mexico City. Doral has hosted several LIV Golf events since 2022.

The new Doral event will be called the “Miami Championship” and begin the week of April 27. In a corresponding move, the Mexico Open will now move to the fall portion of the season.

Other notable changes to the 2026 tour schedule include the tour playing in the Dallas/Fort Worth areas in back-to-back weeks with the CJ Cup Byron Nelson and Charles Schwab Challenge at the end of May. Additionally, the Rocket Classic, played in Detroit, is moving from late June to late July/early August. The Genesis Invitational will return to Riviera after this year’s event was temporarily moved to San Diego in response to the California wildfires, while the Truist Championship returns to Quail Hollow.

In total there are 35 official PGA Tour FedEx Cup events, nine of which will be signature status. The top 100 in the FedEx Cup standings through the 2025 FedEx Cup Fall will secure exempt status for the 2026 Season (the number was 125), with Nos. 101-125 having conditional status. This change, as recommended by the Player Advisory Council, allows 35 graduates from the Korn Ferry Tour, DP World Tour and PGA Tour Q-School to have ample playing opportunities. The top 70 will advance to the PGA Tour postseason, with the top 50 moving on to the BMW Championship and final 30 going to the Tour Championship.

“We're excited to showcase the game’s greatest players competing at golf’s most iconic venues,” said new PGA Tour CEO Brian Rolapp in a statement. “Inspired by our players and fans, we’re accelerating the tour’s evolution and ushering in a new era of innovation on and off the course.”
