PGA Tour pro takes video of brutal lie after not getting ruling he hoped for
Xander Schauffele's free drop out of trouble during the first round of the Wells Fargo Championship was the talk of golf last Thursday. To many on Golf Twitter, it was the latest example of PGA Tour pros being granted (too) generous rulings by officials during tournaments. But another player in another tournament certainly felt like he didn't get the benefit of the doubt.
During Sunday's final round of the PGA Tour's opposite-field event, the inaugural Myrtle Beach Classic, Alejandro Tosti's golf ball wound up embedded just outside of a bunker on the seventh hole at the Dunes Golf & Beach Club. Or so he thought.
When the PGA Tour rookie called in a rules official, he was told his golf ball was plugged in the bunker and denied a free drop. Tosti then took a video of the brutal lie with his phone and shared it on Instagram, asking people if they thought his ball was "on the bunker or outside." The post was noticed by Ryan French, AKA Monday Q Info on Twitter. Have a look:
Tosti wound up making bogey on the hole, shooting 73 and finishing T-63 in the event won by fellow tour rookie Chris Gotterup.
This is not the first time the 27-year-old Argentinian has had a brush with the rules. Last year, he and two playing partners received two-shot penalties for taking a cart ride during a Korn Ferry Tour event, and Tosti was forced to WD from another event in August following a "disciplinary matter."
Tosti has a reputation for being a fiery and fast player. Earlier this year, a photo was taken of him sitting on the side of a green at the Sony Open while waiting for his playing partners to catch up.
Tosti has made just under $1 million this season in 17 starts. The former Florida Gator currently ranks 112th on the FedEx Cup points list and 102nd in the Official World Golf Ranking.
