PGA Tour pro flubs bunker shot, promptly snaps sand wedge in two

    March 22, 2024

Justin Lower had a round to forget on Day 1 at the Valspar Championship. But his sand wedge wound up having it worse.

Lower shot an opening 77 at Innisbrook's Copperhead Course, which we wouldn't draw attention to if not for a moment where he finally—and understandably—lost his cool.

Lower found himself at four over and in the greenside bunker on No. 9 (his 18th hole of the day) when his shot got caught up in the rough instead of reaching the putting surface. Having reached peak frustration, he stomped down on his sand wedge, snapping it in two. Have a look:

We'd never advocate for breaking golf clubs, but, again, we get it. And when you're a PGA Tour pro, it's certainly a lot easier to replace those things like we saw with Adam Hadwin, who tossed one into a lake at the Players last week.

Also like Hadwin, Lower smartly did this on his final hole. Not that it matters much for his tournament chances. After a 77, Lower withdrew ahead of Friday's second round.
