Netflix and the PGA Tour are collaborating on a docuseries that will follow a group of top players during the 2021-22 season. The new series was first reported by Golf.com.
The series will reportedly follow the model of Netflix's highly popular "Drive to Survive" series that gives an inside look into the top Formula 1 drivers and their teams. Box to Box Media, the production company behind "Drive to Survive," will reportedly be involved, as will Vox Media, which produces the "Explained" series on Netflix.
The report does not name any golfers who have agreed to be featured but says six players inside the top 20 in the World Ranking are set to participate. Multiple sources familiar with the project told Golf Digest that Tony Finau, Rickie Fowler and Cameron Champ are among the players highly interested, and that at least one executive from Vox Media is in Atlanta this week hoping to woo the likes of Justin Thomas and Bryson DeChambeau. One source suggested the players are not being offered cash to participate, but would instead benefit from added exposure.
"Drive to Survive," which released its third 10-episode series in March, has been instrumental in massively increasing Formula 1's popularity in the United States. There are similarities between the racing and golfing ecosystems in that there are the frontmen—the driver, or the golfer—and a multi-person support team behind them.
The PGA Tour did not respond to Golf Digest's request for confirmation or comment.
