PGA Tour: Kokrak upstages stars, leads by 1; Spieth misses cut

February 19, 2016

Jason Kokrak, who has not won in 110 PGA Tour starts, has upstaged the stars in the Northern Trust Open field through 36 holes, shooting a seven-under par 64 at Riviera Country Club in Pacific Palisades, Calif., to take a one-stroke lead.

Kokrak, 30, leads Chez Reavie by one, but is two up on both Dustin Johnson, who lost in a playoff last year, and Bubba Watson, the latter the winner of the event in 2014.

The potential Jordan Spieth-Rory McIlroy battle between the first and third-ranked players in the world never came close to materializing. Spieth, who shot a 79 in the first round, followed with a three-under par 68, but still missed the cut by five strokes. McIlroy, meanwhile, shot a two-under par 69 on Friday and is four behind Kokrak, as are Adam Scott and Charl Schwartzel.

First-round leader Camilo Villegas, who opened with a 63, followed with a three-over par 74 and is tied for 15th, five off the lead.
