PGA Championship 2025: It's hard to believe where this short Keith Mitchell chip ended up at Quail Hollow
Despite the deluge at Quail Hollow this week, one thing about the course has remained a constant: the greens are firm as hell.
They appear to only be getting firmer on Friday at the PGA Championship, where Keith Mitchell began his second round with a bogey at the first and then missed the second green long and left. On the surface, a seemingly decent miss to a spot he could make par from with his eyes closed, just 26 feet from the hole.
Mitchell appeared to hit a fine chip, barely landing it on the putting surface and letting it roll out to the hole. But then it rolled, rolled, rolled, rolled and rolled some more. It continued rolling. And rolling. And ROLLING. As Mitchell began walking after it, it looked like it would finally come to rest somewhere on the green. But it just... wouldn't... stop. When it did finally come to rest, he faced a 40-yard shot from well off the green after having just 26 feet to the hole on his second. Brutal:
After watching that, mud balls seem like a walk in the park.
Impressively, Mitchell hit his fourth from there to four feet and saved his bogey to only drop a shot to three over. He's played the next six holes in even par, indicating he didn't let it affect him all that much. Good on ya, Keith. Lesser players may have been broken after that silliness.
