PGA Championship 2025: LIV golfer has only played Quail Hollow on PlayStation, calls it a ‘monster’

Dean Burmester finished T-12, tied with Rory McIlroy, at the 2024 PGA Championship at Valhalla. He shot a six under on Friday and ultimately earned an exemption into this year’s major through his stellar play. One would think the LIV golfer and driving specialist would be a dark horse at Quail Hollow this year, except for this one pesky thing: He only knows the course through video games.
Yup, that’s right. Just like you and I (unless you know the right strings to pull), Burmester has only played competitive rounds at Quail Hollow through pixels.
“I haven’t seen it, but I’ve played it on PlayStation quite a few times,” the relatable pro told Matt Vincenzi. “It’s a monster, right?”
We’re not sure if the weather in the game is as lifelike as the very real storms currently battering the Charlotte course, but that should even the playing field … right? Maybe now’s the time for Burmester to pick up the joysticks (again) and try his luck at the PGA Championship course. It can't hurt to check out the “monster” and Green Mile one more time before he plays it for real with a major on the line.
No matter what happens, we love to see a top talent competing in majors needing PlayStation to not go into a top event blind. The South African now has the video gamer’s seal of approval. And if he doesn’t lift the Wanamaker Trophy this weekend, at least he can get another shot with a controller in his hands.
