PGA Championship 2018: Fence collapses, fans fall off 18th hole grandstand at Bellerive

August 07, 2018

ST. LOUIS — A temporary fence broke on Monday at Bellerive, sending fans tumbling some eight feet towards the ground.

The fence, on a grandstand off the 18th hole, collapsed as fans tried to get autographs during a practice round. The Golf Channel was recording an interview with Ryder Cup captain Jim Furyk when the incident occurred and captured the aftermath.

Jordan Spieth was nearby when the fence broke and rushed over to see if help was needed. Luckily no injuries were reported. The PGA of America issued a statement regarding the incident: “The safety of spectators is our top priority. This afternoon the temporary fencing in the spectator areas around the course was inspected and reinforced as needed to ensure it is secure.”
