People all around the world honored Gary Player on his 81st birthday by doing 81 sit-ups

November 02, 2016

Earlier this year, Gary Player visited the Golf Digest office in NYC. He talked about today's players, he reminisced about his major championships, and he showed off his impressive physical fitness with some office workouts. But this week, it's all about other people putting their physical fitness on display to pay tribute to this golf legend. In honor of Gary Player's 81st birthday on Tuesday, an #81situps4Gary thread was started on Twitter -- and people from all over the world are participating.

We start with some PGA Tour pros like Ian Poulter:

And Peter Malnati:

Then there's Graham DeLaet:

Do those side ones count? Or what about these from Martin Flores?

We might need a ruling from Gary.

Pro golfers/fitness enthusiasts Paige Spiranac and Blair O'Neal also got into the spirit, although they didn't provide video proof. Hmm:

Golf Channel's Lauren Thompson showed all 81 sit-ups:

As did David Leadbetter:

We might need another ruling on the sit-ups by former NFL player Victor Green. Does he get enough height here?

The Presidents Cup staff did there's as a team:

Then there was representation from the South African rugby team:

And finally, the Butler University golf teams, who even sang "Happy Birthday" while doing their crunches!

Great job, everyone. And happy birthday, GP! What about our own video, you ask? Um, we're working on it. . .
