    Pebble Beach's iconic Tap Room reopens after significant renovations

    One of golf’s most iconic 19th holes has gotten a facelift. Pebble Beach’s Tap Room reopened this week after one of its most significant renovations since opening in 1949. Generations of golfers have retired to the iconic bar/steakhouse after battling historic Pebble Beach Golf Links, having a few pints and the resort’s renowned prime-rib chili. Now the Tap Room has been refreshed for generations to come.

    The project mainly focused on updating the interior décor to give it a more contemporary feel, and new historical artifacts from the legends of the game—like Tom Watson’s wedge from his incredible chip-in at the 1982 U.S. Open—give a nod to the resort's place among golf's most historic places.

    “The Tap Room has always been more than a restaurant—it’s where Pebble Beach history comes to life,” said David Stivers, CEO of Pebble Beach Company. “With a refreshed design and menu, it builds on its legacy as the gathering place where the game’s past and present meet.”

    The menu at the Tap Room is now anchored by chop house-style cuts of steak plus a curated selection of rare and vintage bourbons, whiskeys and scotches, all hitting the spot especially if the wind is up at Pebble, which has been ranked the No. 1 public course in the country in every edition of Golf Digest’s list of America’s 100 Greatest Public Courses.

    Not just the greatest meeting of land and sea in American golf, but the most extensive one, too, with nine holes perched immediately above the crashing Pacific surf—the fourth through 10th plus the 17th and 18th. Pebble’s sixth through eighth are golf’s real Amen Corner, with a few Hail Marys thrown in over an ocean cove on the eighth from atop a 75-foot-high bluff. Pebble hosted a successful U.S. Amateur in 2018 and a sixth U.S. Open in 2019. Recent improvements include the redesign of the once-treacherous 14th green and reshaping the par-3 17th green, both planned by Arnold Palmer’s Design Company a few years back, and modifications to the green at the famous eighth hole, which we deemed the second Greatest Hole in America. Green modifications have continued, and Pebble re-enters our top 10 after a brief time out the last two years.

    A new Champions Room at the Tap Room will serve as a private dining space for larger groups. New leather booths and updated deep green walls and accents add to the modernized feel of this great golf jaunt. Many new pieces of golf memorabilia adorn the walls throughout, a nod to the six U.S. Opens hosted at Pebble Beach and other important championships.
