Pavin keeps pairings intact for foursomes

October 02, 2010

NEWPORT, Wales -- The pairings are out for the recently-revised afternoon foursomes matches, and most noteworthy is that U.S. captain Corey Pavin is keeping all four of his tandems together from the opening four-ball, while mixing in two new teams as well.

That includes the Bubba Watson-Jeff Overton team that rolled over Padraig Harrington and Luke Donald 3 and 2, but also includes the listless pairing of Dustin Johnson and Phil Mickelson, which lost its opening match by the same margin.

Colin Montgomerie, meanwhile, has abandoned all but two of his original teams. Graeme McDowell and Rory McIlroy will face Stewart Cink and Matt Kuchar in a rematch of their halved four-ball match, while the successful team of Martin Kaymer and Lee Westwood will face Rickie Fowler and Jim Furyk.

The full slate is below. Note that the group of Tiger Woods-Steve Stricker will not go off first as planned since they are still completing their four-ball match. The timing of their match against Miguel Angel Jimenez and Peter Hanson is still to be determined.
