Paula Creamer and Jessica Korda will play footgolf with soccer legends before year's first major
Paula Creamer and Jessica Korda will team up with U.S. soccer legends Abby Wambach and Julie Foudy in a footgolf exhibition on Tuesday. Sounds fun -- until you realize this week is also the first major championship on the LPGA calendar. Have we already forgotten what happened to Rory McIlroy last year?!
Hopefully, everyone, especially the golfers will be able to avoid getting hurt during the six-hole exhibition. The first-ever ANA Footgolf Faceoff will pit that foursome of Americans against a Japanese team that features soccer stars Ayumi Kaihori and Yayao Kobayashi, as well as golfer Ayako Uehara and another LPGA player to be named by Tuesday's 5:30 p.m. match.
The footgolf competition will take place on the Palmer Course at Mission Hills. The year's first major, the ANA Inspiration (formerly the Kraft Nabisco Championship), will start on the adjacent Dinah Shore Tournament Course on Thursday.
Footgolf, a hybrid of golf and soccer in case you couldn't figure it out by its name, is a growing sport. As of last April, there were more than 400 FootGolf-certified courses in the U.S. The game may combine both sports, but as someone who has tried it (That's NOT me below), my money is on the soccer players if they decide to make a side wager.
