    Old-timers' day

    April 09, 2009

It is not a golf course for the aging, to wit Fuzzy Zoeller's decision to make this his last Masters appearance, citing the fact that Augusta National is now too much course for him.

Yet the senior set distinguished itself rather well in the first round of the Masters, notably Larry Mize, 50, who shot a five-under par 67, and Greg Norman, 54, and Bernhard Langer, 51, each of whom shot two-under par 70s. Sandy Lyle, 50, shot an even-par 72.

Phil Mickelson, Sergio Garcia, Retief Goosen, Ernie Els, Anthony Kim, Danny Lee and Ryo Ishikawa all would have traded their rounds for any of the above scores.
