LPGA player literally stops traffic with tremendous shot from trouble

The were signs for a bike lane and no parking near the road that runs along the 16th hole at Midland Country Club. Since Megan Khang had neither a car nor bicycle, the American LPGA player was clearly in a tough spot on Thursday in the Dow Championship.

Her partner in the team event in Michigan, Lexi Thompson, drove wildly near the road, and when Khang arrived at the ball she was just a few feet the busy street, though still inbounds. The only issue was that the one post with both signs was in the way of Khang’s follow through on her swing. After calling a rules official—who said she could not move the ball if the permanent signs only affected her line of play—it was determined that Khang could take a drop because of the swing issue.

That’s when things got a bit comical, with Khang’s caddie, David Taylor, in his bib and looking like school traffic control (get that guy a box of juice!), stepped into the street to halt vehicles as Khang lined up and hit her shot with a fairway wood.

The strike was a doozy, with Khang’s low liner getting through the trees and zooming onto and then barely through the green. "That'll stop traffic," Golf Channel anchor Grant Boone joked. 

The pair, who dubbed themselves Team Biggie Smalls for the big difference in their heights, saved par at 16 and went on to birdie the next two holes of the back nine after they started on No. 10 to make the turn in three under. That's where they finished, with a 67, to stand in a six-way tie for second place.
