    Dentist who qualified for the U.S. Open ties course record at Indiana golf club, is having a heck of a summer

    The summer of ’69 it ain’t, but it’s still been a heck of a hot season for Matthew Vogt. If that name rings a bell, it wouldn’t have four weeks ago. At that point, Vogt was just a dental professional from Indianapolis who just so happened to be a pretty good stick. Then golf happened.

    Vogt ended up qualifying for the U.S. Open on Golf’s Longest Day, punching his ticket to Oakmont, where, as the ever-poetic twists of fate would have it, he used to caddie while growing up in the Pittsburgh area. Two months removed from the loss of his father, Vogt delivered a tearjerking Golf Channel interview that quickly went viral. Vogt was given the honor of hitting the opening tee shot at the 125th U.S. Open, but struggled, missing the cut after shooting 82-81 at his old haunt.

    This weekend, however, Vogt found the form that helped him qualify for his first-ever U.S. Open, tying the course record at Highland Golf and Country Club in Indianapolis with a bogey-free 62. The DDS shared the achievement on Instagram to celebrate.

    The course, which carries a rating of 71.6 and a slope of 121, isn’t exactly an afternoon stroll, but we guess after Oakmont’s sadistic setup, anything seems easy. It was a nearly immaculate round for Vogt, who carded 8 birdies, 10 pars and none of those pesky squares enroute to another notable on-course achievement. We're sure Vogt would trade this in a heartbeat for a made cut at the U.S. Open, but there’s always 2026 …
