AUGUSTA, Ga. — At his Tuesday press conference, Jordan Spieth knew the question he was about to be asked before it was fully out of the speaker's mouth.
"Sorry to take you back to the past," a reporter said.
"That could be a good or a bad thing," Spieth interjected. "But apparently you're going into the bad route."
He was. Because it was time for Spieth to be asked about what happened on the 12th hole at the 2016 Masters. Yet again.
To Spieth's credit, he handled the inquiry well as he has countless times since the quadruple bogey that all but gave the green jacket to Danny Willett. He admitted the hole weighed on him for a couple years, but he ended his lengthy response on a positive note.
"So I feel pretty good," the three-time major champ said. "It doesn't even come into my head anymore."
Well, that just got a little more difficult on Friday after Spieth suffered another disaster on the famed par 3. Spieth was one under for the day and in good shape at one over for the tournament when he arrived on the tee. But like in 2016, once again, his tee shot found Rae's Creek.
And once again, so did his second shot after taking a drop.
Yikes. If there's a bright side, it's that this time Spieth was able to get up and down to salvage a triple bogey. But obviously, it's not the kind of score that helps you win a major—or even make the cut at a major. And not the kind of result you want to add to the memory bank.
Sorry, Jordan. Those questions about the 12th hole aren't going away anytime soon.
