Masters 2020: Lee Westwood's girlfriend is making her Masters debut as a caddie—and faring quite well

Rob Carr

Golf fans didn't get their normal taste of WAGs at the Masters this year with the cancelation of the Wednesday Par 3 Contest due to COVID-19. But there's at least one significant other on the bag during the actual tournament—and she's getting quite a bit of air time so far.

Helen Storey, Lee Westwood's longtime girlfriend, is making her Masters debut as his caddie. And the pair are faring quite well after Westwood's opening 68 at Augusta National.

Storey began caddying for Westwood late in 2018 after he split with legendary looper Billy Foster, who is now on Matthew Fitzpatrick's bag. Westwood promptly broke a four-year winless drought at the Nedbank Golf Challenge so she's kept the gig, although he's also gone with his son, Sam, and he won in Abu Dhabi this year with James Baker.

Westwood, 47, is a two-time Masters runner-up. But after not earning an Augusta National invite the past two tournaments, he's back this year.

This also isn't the first time they've been in contention at a major together. Storey and Westwood hung near the top of the leader board all week at last year's Open Championship as Westwood finished T-4.

“Obviously I get on well with Helen,” Westwood told reporters during the 2019 Open Championship. “She doesn’t know too much about golf but she knows a lot about the way my mind works. So she keeps me in a good frame of mind and focusing on the right things at the right time. There’s more to the caddying than carrying and getting the wind direction.”

She also seems to possess a caddie's sense of humor. After a humid Wednesday practice round, she joked on Instagram, "I'd win the wet vest competition! 1000% humidity out there."

Keep this up and her boyfriend could claim a certain jacket come Sunday.
