Mark Brooks isn't ready to throw in the towel on PGA Championship

August 10, 2013

ROCHESTER, N.Y. - Though he withdrew from this week's 95th PGA Championship with an infection in his left hip, Mark Brooks isn't ready to bow out of the tournament where he won his only major title. Next year is another story. Brooks, 52, was on the practice putting green at Oak Hill CC late Friday night watching fellow Texan J.J. Henry going through some putting drills. Henry, who occasionally has employed Brooks as a caddie and coach, had said that Brooks might have withdrawn with a lingering knee problem. Coincidentally, Brooks' withdrawal resulted in Henry getting the last spot in the field, and despite just one day to prepare, Henry made the cut with a shot to spare after a pair of 1-over 71s.

"I'm glad he has a chance to play the weekend," Brooks said.
