LPGA: Munoz, Miyazato tied in first major

March 31, 2016

Azahara Munoz of Spain, who has not finished better than a tie for 33rd in six LPGA starts this year, posted her best score of the year, a five-under par 67, to take a share of the lead in the first round of the ANA Inspiration, the first LPGA major of the year.

Only a bogey on the last hole on the Dinah Shore Tournament Course at Mission Hills in Rancho Mirage, Calif., kept Munoz from leading outright. Japan’s Ai Miyazato, who finished third at the Kia Classic last week, also shot a 67.

Scotland’s Catriona Matthew, 46, shot 68 and is tied for third. Lydia Ko, who won the Kia Classic and is No. 1 in the Rolex Rankings, shot a two-under par 70, as did Inbee Park, who is ranked No. 2. They’re tied for 14th three off the lead.
