LIV golfer calls out ‘rat’ in player group chat, upset with confidential leaks

LIV Golf has been a lot of things: A much-discussed lightning rod, a fountain of money (until recently) and a ratings disaster. Well, now, we can add one more thing to the list—a league with a snitch, à la The Departed.

While speaking to Ben Parsons at Today’s Golfer, LIV golfer and 2025 WM Phoenix Open winner Thomas Detry revealed that he thinks there’s a “rat” in the player group chat who’s been leaking information to the media. The once-Saudi-backed league is clearly in some financial struggles right now, and Detry admitted to some frustration with a yet-to-be-determined pro who keeps betraying his fellow players’ trust as they try to ride out this wave.

“Scott [O’Neil] keeps communications very open,” Detry said, regarding the LIV CEO. “We’ve got a player group chat. It seems like there’s a rat in there. It seems like we’re just trying to keep all the stuff between us, and it seems like most of the stuff is being released out there all the time, quite quickly. So it’s not easy to keep confidential things confidential. But they’ve really improved with the communications.

“None of this stuff is really game-changing that was leaked. But still, we’re trying to keep something confidential in the group. And the idea that someone might transfer it to the media, to someone else, is not really fun to know.”

Detry is one of many LIV pros teeing off this week at the DP World Tour's flagship event, the BMW PGA Championship. And despite calling 2026 “one of the best years” of his life, the Belgian is unsure about what’s next for his game.

​​“I would love to stay. I really enjoy LIV,” he continued. “But we’ll see what happens. Obviously, the golf ecosystem is changing all the time. So, we don’t really know if fines are going to start here in Europe. We don’t really know what the deal is.”

All Detry can do right now is “focus” on his golf … and maybe set up a trap of sorts for one golfer in particular.
