Journeyman pro wears Eagles jersey in Web.com Tour event, proving Philly fandom has no bounds

February 04, 2018

It wasn’t the sort of finish Vince Covello was looking for on Sunday at the Web.com Tour’s Panama Championship. A five-over 77 at Panama Golf Club in Panama City (with a back-nine 42) was the 35-year-old’s worst round of the week, and left him in 71st place, 19 strokes back of the victorious Scott Langley.

We’ll give Covello a pass, though. No doubt, the Philadelphia-area native was a bit distracted by something else that’s going on today. It’s not every year that your favorite team plays in the Super Bowl (OK, unless your favorite team is the Patriots). And when you’re starting the day in 55th place and trying to figure out how you’re going to watch the big game when you’re 4,100 miles away, well stuff happens.

Give Covello credit though for having some fun even in the middle of his disappointing round.

Yep, breaking out the DeSean Jackson jersey on the 18th hole. It’s a statement.
