John Daly never fails to disappoint, in one regard, at least, and it isn’t his golf. More on that in a moment.
Daly is an American original, inimitable, as captured in this one Instagram photo and caption, a microcosm of a life lived, for better or worse, on his own terms.
Beer. Cocktails. Smokes. Check. Portable jacuzzi. Check.
Yes, Daly travels with a portable Jacuzzi.
Of course, who doesn’t want a good soak after a bad day at the office, and Daly lately hasn’t had a surplus of good days. His ascension to the PGA Tour Champions has not been the boon to his career that some foretold.
In six events, he has finished no better than a tie for 15th, and in 19 rounds on a tour where scoring in the 60s is imperative, he has done so only three times. His scoring average is 71.89, which would tie him for 46th.
“I can’t putt out here,” Daly said at the American Family Insurance Championship last week. “I mean, every week the greens are so slow. I guess I got to get used to it. I just haven’t been able to adjust to it.”
It’s not to say that he won’t eventually find his groove. Until he does, he can content himself with has his beer, cocktails, smokes and a soak in his portable Jacuzzi.
