A wrist injury will keep Jim Furyk out of the 2015 Presidents Cup.
The news, which had been speculated after Furyk withdrew from the BMW Championship and season-ending Tour Championship, was officially announced on Friday.
Furyk's unwavering play and demeanor made him a popular playing partner in team competitions. He is also one of the most experienced golfers in American history, as this was to be his 17th appearance as a Ryder Cup or Presidents Cup member.
United States Captain Jay Haas has picked J.B. Holmes as Furyk's replacement. The 33-year-old Holmes is in the midst of a career revival in 2015, highlighted by a win in April's Shell Houston Open. Holmes finished the year on a high note, placing fourth in Chicago and eighth in Atlanta.
The Presidents Cup begins on October 8 at the Jack Nicklaus Golf Club Korea in Incheon, South Korea.
